I was saddened to learn of Dt Spenkle's passing. A wonderful teacher, musician, and a man who cared about his students. He had the perfect blend of seriousness, humor and wisdom.
So much of what I learned from him has been passed along as a music minister, teacher, conference leader, and now even as pastor.

2 years ago, I came back to my home town of WC, and happily spent an afternoon with David, just walking around the old side streets we used to haunt on our bikes in elementary school. Due to his gracious openness, it was as if 45 years had not whizzed by. Oddly, I thought of him again just a few days ago. Have the best journey, my friend.

I met Dave in third grade at Fern Hill and we became friends and classmates for the rest of elementary school, then Saturday Cotillion, the same section at North Junior High, and finally we shared several classes in high school. Dave sat behind me in my last class at Henderson before I moved to Michigan and was one of the last friends to say goodbye.

One of many stories about Dave that has stayed with me was a Battle of the Bands at North. I knew Dave was a fine musician, but I had never seen him sing. As his band hit the opening chords of one of my then favorite songs, "I'm Crying" by the Animals, Dave took the mike and nailed a spot-on rendition of Eric Burdon. "Boss" as we used to say.

Thankfully, I had the chance to share this memory with Dave a few years ago, and that whenever "I'm Crying" floats by, I hear David Sprenkle, not Eric Burdon.

Today we are all crying, Friend.

So sorry to hear about Dr. Sprinkle's passing. He was one of the best teachers and conductors I ever encountered! He treated his students with dignity and respect, and his zest for life and love of music were contagious! It was always nice to walk down a hallway or enter a rehearsal and see his smile that lit up the room!

Expressing sincere condolences to the Sprenkle Family. David was a wonderful inspiration to all. Having know him since the seventh grade, he holds a special place in my heart. We stayed in touch over the many years of his life. He was such a kind person and devoted husband and father.

I will always remember his musical talents: He played trombone in band with me in junior and high school, while I played French Horn. The Brass Section was what it was because of him. In remembering high school years, I often told people that the rock band that he was in could play anything and make it sound like the original music.

He will be greatly missed but his legacy will continue. I told my son Christopher to welcome him in Heaven and for them to enjoy music together.

I was so sorry to learn of David's passing. Please accept my sympathy. I enjoyed collaborating with David about Sprenkle family genealogy in the early days of the Sprankle-Sprenkle-Sprinkle mailing list on Rootsweb. And I enjoyed getting to know him in person at the two Sprankle-Sprenkle-Sprinkle Reunions held in York. He was definitely one of the good guys.

So saddened to hear about the passing of Dr. David Sprenkle, a wonderful educator, a kind mentor, and probably the most enthusiastic faculty cheerleader the WCU School of Music ever had. He was a Golden Ram through and through. While serving as undergraduate coordinator, Dr. Sprenkle conducted my entrance interview at West Chester and totally sold me on their education program by the end of our first meeting. He also taught one of my earliest voice classes and helped me prepare for a vocal scholarship through the Reading Music Foundation, which I won. My wife Chrissy and I were just talking about him in the car the other day. So sorry for your loss.

My sincere condolences to Liz and family for your loss. I was in the same home room with Dave for my high school years at Henderson. Dave was a talented musician and an even better person. I always enjoyed catching up with Dave at our class reunions. He will be deeply missed.

David was a lovely, kind man and a supportive colleague. He always had a smile for me and always asked how my day was going. He made the WCU Music Department - and the world around him - brighter by his presence. He will be missed.

My sincere condolences to Liz and family for your loss. David was a member of our Henderson Class of 1969 and we are all saddened and diminished by his passing. David was such a kind, generous, brilliant soul, always with a smile and a light shining from him. We grieve for him and for you that his shining light has passed from this world. He will be sadly missed. Our thoughts and prayers for peace and solace go out to his family.
