We lived across the street on Roslyn Ave. So sorry for your loss. We also lost our other neighbor Betty Powers months ago.

I met Dr. Filano while I was a mathematics major at West Chester. He was our department head and often, my classroom professor. What a wonderful man. I taught math in high school for a few years, and then moved over to a bank career. I've never forgotten him from college.
I was unaware of his WWII experiences. He never spoke of those.
I just remember him as a fabulous math professor and a very nice man. He hosted us at his home and one of the neighbor children called him Mr. Filano. I said, so you're just Mr. Filano here? Your neighbor's children have no idea!
Blessings to Dr. Filano and his family. What a wonderful Life!

I wish to express my sincere condolences to Doctor Filano's family on his passing to eternal life. He was the faculty coordinator to the Newman Apostolate at West Chester when, as a young priest, I was Newman Chaplain back in the sixties.

He was the consummate gentleman, loving husband and father, and professional educator to his very core. I remember how gracious and kind he was to me as together we sought to implant a deep sense of commitment and dedication in dealing with the students with whom we came in contact.

With fondness also I remember visiting his home and his loving wife and children.

May his soul rest now for eternity in the loving embrace of his God whom he served well by the example of his life.

I had the privilege of serving as President of the Rotary Club the year after Al. These were the days without email so we spent a lot of time on the phone chatting about Rotary issues. Al was wise, fair, funny and I was honored to feel like a protege. He is fondly remembered in the Rotary Club of West Chester.

Although I did not know Al personally, I can tell that his many talents/traits have been passed on to his children! Susan, you have his eyes and smile! Donna you have his smile too!
I hope knowing he is back with your mom again brings you some comfort during this difficult time. Thinking of you. Heather

I met AL and Rita at Sons of Italy dinner meetings. They were such a loving couple. Always welcoming anyone to sit with them. I throughly enjoyed the stories. I will miss him.

Al and Rita were close personal friends with the Antonowich family for many years. They were enthusiastic dancers at numerous parties I played in the West Chester area and I enjoyed their company and enthusiasm at the events. Great guy and super couple. He may be the last member of the old guard that were great influences at the college following the years after the Second World War. Our prayers are with the family.
