April 7, 1966 ~ July 19, 2020 (age 54)

Obituary

William “Bill” P. Layer, 54 of West Chester, PA passed suddenly on Sunday, July 19, 2020.

Bill was born in Philadelphia, PA and grew up in Montreal, Canada and Glens Falls, New York. He graduated from the State University of New York College at Plattsburgh. Bill returned to Pennsylvania in the early 1990’s and eventually settled in West Chester, a town he connected with and called home. Here is where he met his soulmate, Diane, got married and started a family. For the past 13 years he worked as a Senior Systems Analyst for Canon Solutions America.

Bill brought a tremendous amount of energy to all his interests and loved to share his passions with family and friends. Bill was an avid skier and especially loved teaching and skiing with his children, Ben and Erin.  He was passionate about music, and successfully cultivated this in his son, Ben. They recently attended the Rolling Stones concert. He enjoyed vacationing with family and friends at two of his favorite destinations, Lake George, NY and Bethany Beach, DE.

Growing up in Canada, Bill had a love for watching and playing Hockey. He also enjoyed participating and winning at fantasy football every year.  Bill participated in many Mud Runs and played various sports with his close group of friends in the West Chester Mudders league.

Bill will especially be remembered for how much he loved his family. His wife, Diane was his truest love and equal partner. Their mutual admiration and respect were obvious to those having the pleasure to be in their company. Bill adored his children and never for a moment took for granted the opportunity to actively raise and spend quality time with them. He enjoyed traveling with his family to the beach, and other adventures locally and around the world.

Above all, Bill will be remembered for the smile that was always on his face and the positive attitude which made him so fun to be around. Bill never spoke negatively about anyone and had the gift to see and point out the best in people.

He is survived by his beloved wife of twenty years Diane, his children, Benjamin and Erin, and Dash, his forever faithful dog. He is also survived by his brother, Paul Layer (Asuka), niece Sara, and nephew, Noah.
