William (Bill) A. Cotner, 77 of West Chester, PA passed away Friday, February 7, 2020 in Malvern, PA.
He was the husband of the late Julieta M. Cotner.
Born April 19, 1942 in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late Francis Cotner and the late Anna Nowak Cotner.
Bill graduated from Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia and joined the Peace Corps in Peru, where he met his wife, Julieta Gonzalez. Soon after their marriage they moved to Ecuador where Bill served in Catholic Relief Services, and then in 1970 they moved back to the Philadelphia area where Bill taught Spanish at Bishop McDevitt in Wyncote. Nine years later they returned to Lima, Peru, where Bill worked as a History and Social Studies teacher at the American School of Lima. He taught there for 33 years before retiring in 2012, when he and Julieta settled in West Chester.
He enjoyed running and completed several marathons, including the very first Marine Corps Marathon in Washington DC.
Bill is survived by his daughter Diana Levins (John) of Malvern, son Michael Cotner of West Chester, and son Patrick Cotner of Bayside NY.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Julieta Gonzalez Cotner.
Relatives and Friends are invited to his Visitation on Thursday, February 13, 2020 from 10:00-10:45am at SS. Peter & Paul Church, 1325 E. Boot Rd. West Chester, PA 19380; followed by his Funeral Mass at 11am.
Interment will be held in St. Agnes Cemetery, West Chester.
