Vasilios E. Kounios, 94, passed away on April 7, 2022, in West Chester, PA. He was the beloved husband of Stavroula (Kuptsis) Kounios, who passed away in 2004.
Vasilios was born in Agia Marina, in Lesvos, Greece in 1928. After surviving World War II with his parents and siblings, he served as an officer in the Greek army. He then served as the vice mayor of Agia Marina.
In the summer of 1955, he met Stavroula, a Greek-American schoolteacher with roots on the island of Lesvos, and married her. He moved with her to the United States, residing in New York.
Vasilios worked at The Bank of New York for more than 30 years, including serving as a vice president at the main office in Manhattan and working at the Garden City branch office.
After his wife's passing, he moved to West Chester, PA, to live close to his son and his family.
Vasilios dearly loved, and is loved by, his family. He is survived by his son, John; daughter-in-law, Yvette; and grandchildren, Vasilios (Bill) and Daphne. He is also survived by family members in Greece, the United States, and Canada.
The funeral service will be private.
