Timothy David Kelley, 34, passed away on July 3, 2024, in Los Angeles, CA. Born on October 21, 1989, in Wilmington DE, he is survived by his parents, Michael F. and Yvonne S. Kelley of West Chester, PA. Tim grew up in the West Chester area and graduated from Archmere Academy, Claymont, DE in 2008. He received his B.A. in Psychology from Franklin & Marshall College, Lancaster, PA and his M.S. in Experimental Psychology from Saint Joseph’s University, Philadelphia, PA. He went on to receive his Ph.D. in Cognitive Neuroscience from Texas Tech University, Lubbock, TX, where he studied metacognition using functional MRI neuroimaging. For the past three years, he had been a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior at UCLA, where he was studying attention impairments in ADHD patients using EEG-fMRI neuroimaging techniques.
Tim enjoyed Philly sports, especially the Sixers and the Process. He also liked building his own computer systems to enhance his videogaming experience. While growing up, he liked traveling with his parents to Australia, Hawaii and Europe, especially Italy. At F&M, he studied abroad in Vicchio, Italy during a very hot summer. He once said he would love to retire to Italy. Since moving to the West Coast, he enjoyed hiking with his lab mates in the hills around Los Angeles and visiting the Petersen Automotive Museum – he delighted in seeing the DeLorean from Back to the Future. Most of all, he treasured his two cats, Meta and Tiger Lily – making sure everyone knew Meta was named for “metacognition” long before that social media company claimed it.
In addition to his parents, Tim is survived by his maternal grandmother, Leona Subda of Wilmington DE and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his maternal grandfather, Joseph Subda and his paternal grandparents, William J. and Rita M. Kelley.
Tim was a kind and wonderful person. He truly loved his family and friends. He made our lives so much better. He will be missed and be forever in our hearts.
Services will be private. Interment will be at the Birmingham Lafayette Cemetery, West Chester, PA.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Delaware Nature Society.
