It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Temple Anne Hughes on Monday, September 30, 2024, at the age of 90, at Wellington Court in West Chester, PA. She was born on June 28, 1934, in Newark, NJ, to Anthony and Grace (Nee Torres) Scafati.
Temple grew up in Rahway, NJ, and graduated from Rahway High School. She obtained her BA in education from Shepherd College where she met her husband of 59 years, the late John V. Hughes, Jr.
She worked as a School Teacher for 50 years. She was a Mary Kay consultant for many years and achieved directorship. She was known for her strong faith and love of her family. She had an incredible sense of humor, and love of music, and travel.
Temple was a parishioner of SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in West Chester, PA., and was a resident at the Wellington at Hershey Mill where she enjoyed painting, and anything involving music, theater or cinema.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Anthony Scafati and Grace (Nee Torres) Scafati, her husband, John V. Hughes, Jr., her siblings, Maj. Anthony Scafati and Lynne Blackwood, sister inlaw, Marguerite (Nee Genetti) Scafati, and her son in law Gregory Weidman.
She is survived by her sister, Deanne (Nee Scafati) Collins; brothers inlaw, George Blackwood and Charlie Schoenbrodt; children, Barbara Mazzone (Peter Mazzone), Catherine Weidman (John Nelson), John V. Hughes, III (Jacqueline Hughes), Carole Parlett (Norman Parlett), Jennifer Chatman (Christopher Chatman); grandchildren, Michael Parlett (Melissa), Jacqueline Oberholtzer (Jesse), Kevin Parlett (Carlee), Cristina Chavarriaga (Alejandro), Joseph Weidman (Ari Nachman), Liam Chatman, Colin Chatman, Caroline Chatman and 8 great grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to her visitation on Monday, October 21, 2024, from 10:00 am - 10:45 am at the SS. Peter & Paul Church 1325 E. Boot Rd. West Chester, PA 19380, followed by her Funeral Mass at 11am. Live streaming will be available Here.
Interment will be private.
