Susan M. Ryan

Susan M. Ryan (Moran) of Berwyn, PA left this life in peace and joy on March 27, 2025, graced in her final days by the presence of her children, grandchildren, sister, and lifelong friends. 

She was born in Vineland, New Jersey on April 22, 1936, daughter of James J. Moran, Sr. and Inez B. Moran and stepdaughter of Margaret R. Moran.  She was predeceased by her brother James. J. Moran Jr. and is survived by her sister Margaret C. Moran.  She was also predeceased by the love of her life, Anthony J. Ryan Sr. 

She was the mother of 7 children, Tony Ryan (Pam), Chris Ryan, Bill Patterson (Cathy), Mary Susan Milbourne (Greg), John Patterson (Lisa), Sam Patterson and Jeremy Ryan (Erin Fay).  Her greatest joy in life was being a grandmother and was blessed with fourteen: Kyle, Erin, Ben, Liam, Christopher, Jake, Cael, Becca, Aidan, Finn, Hannah, Sammy, Harper and Clara. 

She graduated from Chestnut Hill College in 1957 and, as part of a long career in early education, earned a M.Ed. from Cabrini College.  Her greatest joy in life was shaping the lives of children, as a mother, a grandmother, a sister, an aunt and an educator.

A deeply spiritual person, she was as likely to find God in her garden or the beauty of the birds she treasured out of her window as she was in the Daylesford Abbey, a community to which she dedicated much of her time, serving as a Spiritual Director for countless others on their journeys of faith. 

Relatives and friends are invited to her funeral mass on March 31, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Daylesford Abbey, 220 South Valley Road, Paoli Pa. where friends and family may call after 10:15am. Burial will follow after a reception.  In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Chester County Food Bank.
