Susan Marshall Obituary

Susan Shaw (Barrall) Marshall, 72, of West Grove, PA, passed away in her sleep at Penn Medical Hospice, West Chester, PA on February 10, 2020. Born in Chester, PA on August 29, 1947 and was raised in Media, PA where she graduated from Penncrest High School in 1965. Susan was the daughter of Melvin and Elizabeth (Shaw) Barrall.

Susan married her soul mate, John, in 1968. Their courtship began when they were both tellers at Haverford Trust Bank in Ardmore, PA. Their incredible love and devotion to each other knew no bounds and provided inspiration to all who knew them. Together they raised two wonderful children: John and Megan. Family was the essence of Susan’s life and she cherished every moment spent with her children, grands, sisters, in‐laws, nieces and nephews.

Susan was an avid dancer, having been on Dick Clarks American Bandstand many times. She passed along her skills to her daughter after seeing how her son was born with two left feet. Susan won at Wheel of Fortune, the Home Edition, too many times to count. She tried out to be on the show every time they auditioned in the Philadelphia area, only to be turned away because Vanna White was jealous of her beauty. When Susan wasn’t finding select pieces of art or furniture for her interior decorating business in Havertown or hand modeling for QVC out of her home in West Grove, you could find her at her favorite job, One Arm Bandit tester. Susan and John traveled far and wide, to all ends of the world, in search of riches. The treasures they found varied from wooden nickels to buckets of coins. The anticipation of their adventures always brought a smile to their face and an unbridled laughter to all who heard the stories upon their return. Susan’s life skills were challenged many times, but no matter what was thrown her way, including an almost 40 year diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis, she forged on. Her partner in crime, John, provided just what was needed to brighten Susan’s spirit, bring a smile to her face, and the strength to continue to provide the innate nurturing a mother provides to her family. Susan will be missed by all who knew her, but we all can take solace in knowing that she is pain free, dancing the mash potato, winning at whatever game she is playing and walking hand in hand, smiling and laughing with her beloved John again.

In addition to her children, Susan is survived by her sisters Dyan Quann (John) and Joni Barrall (Kristine Swanson), daughter in law Dara Gans‐Marshall, son in‐law Alfred Alpini, grands Jason Marshall, Alyson Marshall, Ryan Marshall, Alfred Alpini, Sophia Alpini and Dominic Alpini, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Melvin Barrall, mother Elizabeth (Shaw) Barrall, husband John W. Marshall, and daughter in‐law Christine (Mackin) Marshall.
