Steven Lee Rulon

On Wednesday, Feb. 20, Steve Rulon of West Chester, beloved husband of Lisa and father to Steven and Danielle, passed away at the age of 67 surrounded by loving family and friends.

Steve is survived by his precious parents Mary and Harold as well as younger siblings Bill, Jean, Dan, Nina and Tim. Steve was greeted “on the other side” by loving brother Randy who passed in 2014.

His devotion to family and friends knew no bounds.

Steve was known for consistently sharing a smile, positive attitude and an ear. An engaged listener with a great sense of humor, he excelled in conducting a conversation that made you feel like you were the only person in the room.

Daughter, Danielle and Steve “pecked their necks” and tapped their toes at local School of Rock concerts together and Steve was so proud of his daughter’s academic achievements. He thrived on spending quality time with his son Steven and young grandson Odin Magnus.

Steve loved his cat Kishka, spaghetti and meatballs and the snow (always making smiley faces on trees with a snow blower). Never far from walks on the beach and swimming, Steve was also an active member of the Schlegel swim team in his youth. He won numerous trophies for the Butterfly and Breaststroke.  He loved the water and immensely enjoyed Scuba diving with his cousin Dutchie and with other friends.

Steve had a lifelong passion for soulful music and was a self-taught bass guitar player since the age of 12. He had the capacity to assimilate the driving pulse of his bass into any song the same way he would incorporate love into his life.

Known by many as the “funk master,” Steve jammed and harmonized with several bands including The Vandals, Velveteers, Vanilla, Street Heat, Ridge Road, Jazper, Bombu Wali, Rob Dickerson Trio, High Balls, Been There Done That, Big Eyes, Two Scoops of Vanilla, Blues Project, Superbs, Good Foot, Brandywine Christmas Minstrels, The Billy Burger Band, Blue Cats, and also played with Tommy Conwell.  Steve will always be remembered rocking that bass with fellow bandmates in “The Shop” at his parents’ home or strumming in solitude on his deck while sipping a brew.

Steve worked with his father at Rulon’s Amusements early in his career and then as a technician with Advanced Audio Visual and Visual Sound. He graduated from Henderson High in 1969.

Relatives and friends are invited to his Visitation on Friday, March 1, 2019 from 9am-12noon at the DellaVecchia, Reilly, Smith & Boyd Funeral Home, Inc. 410 N. Church St. West Chester, PA 19380, 610-696-1181, www.DellaFH.com; followed by his Memorial Service at 12noon.

Interment will be private.
