Obituary

Stephen P. Dunleavy, 66, of West Chester, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully at home on January 20, 2026 after a long battle with cancer.

Born September 13, 1959 to Joan (Shay) and John Dunleavy, he was a 1977 graduate of West Chester Henderson High School, where he played baseball all four years and some football. He was a lifelong Philadelphia sports fan, with the Phillies being number one in his heart and the Eagles running a close second. In his later years, he attended several Phillies spring training camps in Clearwater, Florida.

In 1988 Steve founded the American Window Treatment Company, a one-man operation that focused on customized window treatments with expert installations for commercial properties, serving clients in the tri-state area for more than 35 years, most notably the Hankin Group and Shields Construction. As a top seller of Springs Window Fashions in 2005, he won a trip for his family to The Atlantis in the Bahamas, creating many happy memories.

Steve loved the ocean and being on the beach with his family, enjoying many summer vacations in Ocean City, New Jersey during his childhood, and spending more time there after becoming a homeowner in 2003. He was also always up to go out to eat with his sons and wife; food and family went together for him. And he especially treasured experiencing his favorite band, ZZ Top, with his sons at a couple of concerts in recent years. At home, he enjoyed gardening and had a green thumb, specifically with flowers; his favorite was a hibiscus.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 29 years, Michele (Repko) Dunleavy and three sons: Stephen Dunleavy, Jr. and his partner Marque Bilinski, Patrick Ryan Dunleavy, and Andrew Brian Dunleavy and his girlfriend Faith Regester; Cathy Harsh, Steve, Jr.’s mom, and her husband Rick Harsh; brothers Brian Dunleavy and Jack Dunleavy; sister-in-law Anna Dunleavy; nephews John and Tyler Dunleavy and niece Raquel Dunleavy; and many Repko in-laws, nieces, and nephews.

Throughout his life, Steve enjoyed watching sports, western movies, and shows about U.S. history, often with longtime family companion and Labrador retriever, Bear, by his side. After Bear passed away in 2022, rescue puppy, Coal, joined the family in 2023, providing joy and support in Steve’s later days.

A viewing will take place on January 30, 2026 from 10:30-11:30 am at SS. Simon and Jude Church in West Chester, Pennsylvania, followed immediately by Mass. Burial will be at St. Agnes Cemetery, with a luncheon to follow at the Knights of Columbus Banquet Hall, both in West Chester.
