Sondra Pauline Heffernan

Sondra Pauline Heffernan, known lovingly as Sondra, passed away on July 8, 2026, in Coatesville at the age of 85 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born on July 9, 1940, in Philadelphia, Sondra was the adopted daughter of Christopher Alioto and Helen Citron, and the beloved stepdaughter of Julie Lanza. She was raised with the values of faith, perseverance, and kindness that would guide her throughout her life. A proud graduate of Lower Merion High School, she carried herself with quiet dignity and a steady spirit that earned the respect of all who knew her.

Sondra devoted her life to hard work and service. Over the years, she served as a phone operator, a bank teller, a bookkeeper at Nussex Farms, and later as an administrator at West Chester University’s Burster’s Office. In each role, she was known for her reliability, her careful attention to detail, and her gracious manner. She approached her work as an extension of her character, always willing to help, always ready to do her part faithfully and well.

Her greatest joy, however, was found in her family. Sondra is survived by her twin sister, Marilyn Greenhalgh; her sons, Michael Heffernan, Chris Heffernan, and Bryan Heffernan; and her stepdaughter, Teresa Rewald. She also leaves behind many cherished grandchildren, including Jesse, Paul, Nina, Amanda, Colleen, Thomas, James, Gabrielle, Teresa, and Mike. Her family was the center of her heart, and she treasured every moment spent with them. She was a constant source of love, encouragement, and strength, and her presence will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to know her.

Sondra was a woman of Christian faith, and her life reflected the quiet beauty of a servant’s heart. She found comfort and purpose in her church, where she worshiped and shared fellowship with others. Her faith was not only spoken but lived in the way she cared for people, offered encouragement, and faced life’s challenges with grace. She trusted in the Lord’s promises and carried that trust with her through every season of life.

Among her many interests, Sondra especially enjoyed sewing, quilt making, and gardening. She took great pride in creating beautiful things with her hands, and her quilts and sewing reflected the patience and love she poured into everything she did. In the garden, she found peace and satisfaction, tending to the earth with the same care she gave to her home and family. These simple, faithful pursuits brought her joy and left behind tangible reminders of her gentle spirit.

Though her earthly journey has come to an end, her loved ones take comfort in the hope of eternal life and the promise of reunion through Christ. Her life was a blessing, and her memory will remain a treasured part of the lives she touched.

She will be remembered for her steadfast love, her humble faith, and the warmth she shared so freely with others. May she rest in the peace of the Lord, and may her family find comfort in the many years of love, devotion, and grace she gave so generously.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Cornerstone Fellowship Church, 101 Kylies Rd Coatesville on August 1st at 11 am.
