Shirley L. Grey

Shirley Louise Grey, 85. Of Elkton, Maryland, formerly of West Grove, Pennsylvania, passed away on December 26, 2024, at the Chester County Hospital, surrounded by her family.  She was the wife of Kelcie Grey of Elkton with whom she shared 15 years of marriage.

Born in Johnson City, Tennessee, she moved to Pennsylvania at the age of seven. Shirley was the daughter of the late George and Nola Swanner. 

Shirley was a stay-at-home mom in the early years, and then became a certified nursing assistant at Kendal Crosslands for 19 years.

Shirley enjoyed the beach, going out to eat, playing card games, George Strait and her family. She would spend time on her husband’s farm in Virginia, and when there, loved spending time with her sister, Francis in Tennessee.

Shirley is survived by her three children, Linda Cornett Dowell of Landenberg, Sharon Cornett Batten, wife of Tim of Landenberg and a son Michael Cornett of Landenberg. Three stepchildren, Douglas Grey (Lois) of Kingsport, Tennessee, Rhonda Dowell (Bob) of Elkton, Maryland and David Grey, of Elkton, Maryland.  Ten grandchildren; Lucas Dowell (Jennifer) of Nottingham, Heather of Landenberg, Sara Rigo of Landenberg, Christopher Gentry (Alaina) of Lincoln University, Michael Cornett (Lindsay) of Nottingham, and Meghan Warnecker (Michael) of Nottingham.  Six great grandchildren; Rylee and Devon Dowell, Kaiden Harlan, Madelyn and Sophia Gentry and Cole Cornett. A sister, Francis Brandon in Jonesborough, Tennessee. Several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her first husband, Arlie Cornett, four grandsons, Brandon Gentry, Matthew Dowell, Myrlan Dowell II, Nicholas Dowell, and a son in-law, Gene Dowell.  Brothers, Fred Swanner and Harry Smith.

Relatives and friends are invited to her visitation on Thursday, January 2, 2025, from 5pm -7pm at DellaVecchia, Reilly, Smith &Boyd Funeral Home at 410 North Church Street, West Chester, PA, followed by her funeral service at 7pm. The burial will be private.
