Sarah Elizabeth Merwarth of West Chester.
Sarah “Sally” Elizabeth Merwarth, 83 of West Chester, PA passed away peacefully on Tuesday May 4, 2021 at Paoli Hospital.
She was the wife of the late Frederick. L. Merwarth and the late Thomas E. Kolongowski.
Born January 7, 1938 in Upper Darby, PA she was the daughter of the late Samuel John Leonard and the late Katherine Myers Leonard.
Sally was a graduate of the Tredyffrin-Easttown High School, a 1959 graduate of Drexel University and received her teaching degree from West Chester University. She combined her degree with her creativity and ability to inspire while teaching elementary school children for several years before becoming a homemaker. Sally’s core values were built around her faith and love of family. She was a devout Catholic and she attended weekly mass. She became involved in her parish community, most recently while serving as an usher at Saints Peter and Paul. Sally enjoyed going on vacations with her siblings, attending countless sporting activities with her children, and watching in amazement as her grandchildren grew.
Sally’s hobbies included painting, gardening, baking, reading and writing poetry. She was a volunteer for several hospital thrift shops in the states where she lived. Sally liked traveling and vacationing at the Jersey Shore where she could always be found on the beach collecting seashells. More than anything, Sally cherished the time spent with her family.
She is survived by her children, Catherine A. Kolongowski, Thomas E. Kolongowski, Jr., Mary "Lisa" E. Pacheco, and her husband Alfredo "Freddy", Ann Marie DiAddezio and her husband, Matthew L., Marcia "Marcy" A. Kolongowski, and her husband Marty Hayden, grandchildren, Thomas, Lauren, Matthew, Christine, Matthew, Sarah, Alfredo Jr., Yajaida and siblings, Jane Etter, Richard Leonard, and Ellen Baker.
She was predeceased by her siblings, David Leonard, Kitty Adair, Lawrence Leonard, and Ann Connon.
Relatives and Friends are invited to her visitation on Monday, May 17, 2021 from 6- 9 pm at the DellaVecchia, Reilly, Smith & Boyd Funeral Home, Inc. 410 North Church Street West Chester, PA 19380, 610-696-1181, www.DellaFH.com. Funeral Mass will be at 11am on Tuesday, May 18, 2021 at the SS. Peter & Paul Church; 1325 E. Boot Rd. West Chester, PA 19380.
