Sara B. Bonsall (Sally), 85, of West Chester, PA passed away Wednesday January 22, 2025 at The Hickman in West Chester, PA.
She was the wife of the late Dale Roberts Bonsall.
Born October 19, 1939 in Spangler, PA she was the daughter of the late Francis E. Bearer and the late Stella J. Kane Bearer.
Sally grew up in Carrolltown, PA and graduated from John Carroll High School in 1957. She then matriculated to Millersville State College where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education.
Upon graduation, Sally began her teaching career in Manheim Township School District in Lancaster, PA. During a teacher strike early in her career, she decided to take a position as a flight attendant with Trans World Airlines. This provided Sally an opportunity to travel and see exotic parts of the world, including Europe, Egypt and the Far East, while she was based in New York City. During that time, Sally met and married her husband Dale and they enjoyed a long loving marriage of 56 years before his passing in December 2022.
After getting married, Sally returned to teaching, first starting with a position in the Haverford Township School District and then moving to the West Chester Area School District with an extended career working with the young children she loved at Exton Elementary until she retired.
Sally was devoted to her faith in the Lord and attended Mass daily as well as taught CCD classes for 36 years at Saints Simon and Jude Catholic Church and later at Saint Agnes, both in West Chester. She was also a passionate gardener and spent many an afternoon working in the flower beds at her West Chester home.
Sally’s greatest joy was the love shared by her family and she is survived by her children, Megan (Christopher) Jacobs and Chad (Lisa) Bonsall and beloved grandchildren Brent, Aidan, James, Michael and Sarah. She is also survived by her sister Ann Edson, her brother Frank (Marcia) Bearer, her sister-in-law Anna Bearer, as well as numerous wonderful nieces and nephews.
Sally will be remembered by all who knew her for her devoted, generous, and loving spirit and a kinder soul would surely be hard to find.
Relatives and friends are invited to her Visitation on Saturday, March 22, 2025 from 9:00 am - 9:45 am at Saint Agnes Catholic Church, 233 W. Gay St., West Chester, PA 19380, followed by her Funeral Mass at 10:00 am.
