Rosemary M. Rooney

Rosemary M. Rooney, 93 of Burke, VA passed away Sunday July 20, 2025 at Heatherwood Retirement Community in Burke, VA.

She was the wife of the late Francis J. Rooney.

Rosemary was born on April 8, 1932, in Mahanoy City, Pennsylvania, to John Yesinsky and Mary Chonko Yesinsky. She grew up in Mahanoy City and graduated from High School there.

In 1957, she married her high school sweetheart Francis J. Rooney and the couple moved to West Chester, PA and started a family.  They would raise three children together and reside there for over 60 years.  Several years ago, she moved to Virginia for assisted living and to be closer to family.

Rosemary was a long-time employee of the Chester County Hospital, School of Nursing, where she worked in the Financial Aid Office. She often said that it was her favorite job.

She was a member of St. Agnes Parrish and together with her husband Frank took part in many fundraising activities organized by the Church.

Rosemary was an accomplished pianist. She enjoyed playing piano every day and on special occasions would entertain the family with holiday songs. She also encouraged her children to learn piano.

Her many other hobbies included taking long walks in West Chester with her neighbors, Line Dancing and playing cards with friends. She enjoyed hosting holiday gatherings at her house, where she always made it special, especially for hergrandchildren.

Rosemary was a huge Philles and Eagles fan. She watched every game and took great pride when the Eagles won the Super Bowl

She is survived by her three children—her daughter Nancy, and her sons Joe (Megan) and John (Beth), along with six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her sister Geraldine, and brother Jack.    

Relatives and friends are invited to her Funeral Mass on Thursday, July 31, 2025 at 11:00 am St. Agnes Church 233 W. Gay St. West Chester PA 19380.

Interment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery West Chester, PA.
