Rosemarie Struckmeyer was ushered to heaven on April 11, 2021 at the age of 84 after experiencing a hemorrhagic stroke.
She grew up in Livingston, NJ and graduated Barrington College with a B.A. in Missions in 1958. She has lived in West Chester for the last 15 years after previously living in Baltimore, Illinois, and Montreal.
Romy worked for World Relief for 15 years and was Director of Human Resources for a number of them. She traveled widely, spending time at refugee camps on the Afghan border in the 1980’s, a camp in Indonesia on another occasion, and in Central America on the Honduran-Nicaraguan border at other times. She also worked the Lausanne Committee for World Evangelization and for the Erickson Company of Chicago.
She was a member of Grace Covenant Church in Exton. Romy committed her life to Christ at a young age and spent the majority of her career serving in Christian ministry.
Romy loved to meet people and was extraordinarily gifted at remembering people’s names and details about their lives. When in conversation, she had the unique ability to make you feel like you were the most important person in the world and her compassionate care for others was admired by many. She also had the gift of hospitality and loved to entertain friends in her home. Dinner and fellowship at Romy’s house was always a cherished and memorable event. Her stories about her travels were less often about the destination, and more often about the people that she met and developed lasting friendships with. She will be deeply missed by friends, family and all who knew her.
She is survived by her brother, Fred of West Chester, and sister Evelyn of Perkasie, as well as by three nieces and four nephews and by four great nieces and eight great nephews. Never married, she formed lifelong friendships with both men and women whom she had met in various places.
