Obituary

Robert K.  McCarter, 76 of West Chester, PA died Wednesday August 30, 2023 at King of Prussia Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation.

Born June 15, 1947 in York, PA he was the son of the late Robert B. McCarter and the late Rae Wallick McCarter.

Robert grew up in West Chester, Pa. and graduated from West Chester High School in 1965, West Chester University in 1970, and received his Master’s Degree from William and Mary College, Williamsburg. He also completed Doctoral level courses at Temple University.

He was a Rotary Club Exchange Student in England in 1965-1966.

He worked as a Biology Teacher at Great Valley High School, 1970 – 2002.  He created a plant and care program and classes which included a greenhouse while at Great Valley. As a faculty member, he was tennis coach and leader of school youth tours of Europe. He was a Fulbright Teacher to London, England, 1976-1977.

Robert was a member of West Chester Friends Meeting. He was also a former school board member of West Chester Friends School.

He was a Scout in Troop 6 from the West Chester Friends School, and continued his service as an adult leader. He was also a 2005 recipient of the Silver Beaver Award from the Chester County Boy Scout Council, the highest award given by the Council. He also received the Vigil Honor of the Order of the Arrow. He was co-founder of the World of Scouting Museum at Valley Forge, along with his good friend, Paul Ware. Rob spent his life collecting memorabilia and it was his lifelong goal to have his collection in a permanent museum.

His service to the community included volunteer work at Chester County Historical Society, Board Member of Landisville Camp Meeting Assoc. of Landisville, PA., Humane Education Committee, Chester County SPCA and Science Fair Judge for Great Valley School District.

He is survived by his sister, Brenda M. Hinze (John), nephew Sean Hinze (Marsha), niece Kelly Wessels (Jude) and five great nieces and nephews-Ryan, Carson, Macy, Carys, Rhys.

Relatives and friends are invited to his visitation on Friday, September 8, 2023 from 10:00 am - 10:45 am followed by his Funeral Service at 11am at the DellaVecchia, Reilly, Smith & Boyd Funeral Home, Inc. 410 North Church Street West Chester, PA 610-696-1181; www.DellaFH.com

Interment will be in private.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Chester County Council, Boy Scouts of America or Brandywine SPCA, West Chester, PA.
