Obituary

Robert “Frank” Jakubowicz, 92 of West Chester, PA, died Friday September 27, 2024 at Brandywine Living at Longwood in Kennett Square.

He was the dedicated husband of Sylvia Jakubowicz, with whom he shared 62 years of joyful marriage. He is survived by four children and eight grandchildren: Peter Jakubowicz and his children Henry and Clementine of Oregon; Caroline Nelson, her husband Lance Nelson, and their children Casey, Claire, Grace, Lucy, and Aaron of Pennsylvania; Susan Jakubowicz of Massachusetts; and Maryann Carroll, her husband Robert Carroll, and their children Hope and Mae of Maine.

Born 24 June 1932 in Providence, Rhode Island, he was the son of the late Stephen and Josephine Orluk and the nephew of Joe Orluk.

Frank attended Northeastern University and Boston College Law School, where he trained for his lifelong vocation of public service. He served his community and countrymen in the U.S. Army, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Massachusetts State House of Representatives, and Berkshire District Attorney. Frank also expressed his passion for public debate as a regular contributor to the Berkshire Eagle and an adjunct professor at Williams College.

Frank was a beloved father and grandfather, known for sharing his sweet tooth and giving expert cross country skiing lessons around the backyard. Frank leaves a legacy of Red Sox faithful (and Yankee haters) from his many pilgrimages to Fenway Park, where clam chowder and Sam Adams was required. He showed his deep love for his family by freezing his lawn into an ice rink and collecting fallen leaves for jumping. Frank was happiest surrounded by his loved ones on the front porch in Eastham, overlooking Nauset Light.

He was preceded in death by Sylvia and their infant son Frank.

Interment will be in Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne MA.

To honor his memory, raise a glass with your family, strike up a conversation with your neighbor, and go wherever you can help.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Berkshire Athenaeum 1 Wendell Avenue, Pittsfield, MA 01201
