Richard M. Gates Jr.

Richard M. Gates Jr., 63 of West Chester, PA passed away Friday June 12, 2026 at Green Meadows Rehabilitation & Nursing Center in Malvern.

Born January 6, 1963 in West Chester, PA he was the son of Mary Catherine Murphy Williams and Richard Gates.

Following his disability from an automobile accident in 1981, he was able to graduate in 1983 from the West Chester East High School. Prior to his accident he was a member of the Boy Scouts, junior counselor at the YMCA and a member of the East High School Track and Field team. He enjoyed writing and poetry.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his brother, Scott Allen Gates (Deborah), stepbrothers, Carl M. Williams, Jr., David B. Williams (Laura), stepsister, Sherry Borras.

He is also survived by his aunts, Susan Walters, Jerri Lee Wilimzig, Sue Murphy-Grubb and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.

He was preceded in death by stepfather, Carl M. Williams, father, Richard Gates, paternal uncle, Earl H. Gates, maternal uncles Jimmy R. Murphy, Dennis M. Murphy and Edward A. Murphy and also Wayne T. Wilimzig.  He was also preceded in death by his nephew, Ed Gates and brother-in-law, Bruno Borras.

Relatives and friends are invited to his Graveside Service on Monday, June 22, 2026 at 11:00 am at the Green Mount Cemetery 117 Westtown Road West Chester PA 19382
