Born in Pittsburgh on June 25, 1934, Ray lived in Ingram and graduated from Crafton High School. After high school, Ray attended The University of Pittsburgh where he was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon, as well as serving with the ROTC. While in both high school and college, Ray was a talented saxophone player and later added the clarinet to his musical talents. He performed in the band for both Crafton High School and Pitt.
He met his soul mate Sue (Berkhouse) and they married on September 7, 1956. They set up house in Bellevue but finally moved back to Ingram and started their family. Right after marriage, Ray enlisted in the Army and was trained as a Medical Specialist, assigned to Fort Sam Houston, Texas and followed by Fort Knox, Kentucky, where he was an Emergency Room Specialist.
Following his enlistment, Ray worked as a sales engineer for an HVAC company, then as a policeman for the Ingram Borough.
At that time, he joined Castle Company and accepted a position in the Philadelphia suburbs. On Valentine’s Day 1968 Ray and his family settled into their forever home in West Goshen Township. For the next 20+ years Ray worked in various positions in the medical equipment field.
At the same time, Ray joined the Goshen Fire Company where he volunteered for 20+ years and covered many positions with them, including Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Firefighter, and Chief of Ambulance Corps.
Following his “retirement,” Ray worked in various positions, staying active for many additional years.
Ray (along with Sue) were blessed with 13 grandchildren and 10+ great-grandchildren (and counting). Ray was always excited to see his family, and looked forward to the days when they would stop by for a visit.
