Nino Mauro, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away at the age of 92 on May 26, 2023. Nino was born on February 20, 1931, in Palata, Italy where he grew up along with his parents, sister and 7 brothers. Having lost his father at 4 years old, he learned early on the lessons of family responsibility and the importance of hard work to the point Nino became a mechanic’s apprentice at the age of 9 until the age of 22 when he joined the Italian Navy. At 26, once he felt his mother was well taken care of and after completing his tour for the Italian Navy, he decided to emigrate to America in search of better work opportunities. It was there that he met his wife of 64 years, Marie Launi from West Chester, PA.
Upon his arrival on Ellis Island, he obtained his first job in America with McHugh Electrical and later joined International Harvester Trucking in Philadelphia. Years later he found his lifelong career as a diesel mechanic for Wyeth Ayerst Labs in West Chester.
In addition to working endless hours to provide for his wife and kids, Nino had many hobbies such as his vegetable garden and making homemade wine. He loved spending time with his grandchildren teaching them about his hobbies, his childhood in Italy, and encouraging their pursuit of education.
Nino will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His legacy will live on through his loving family and the memories they shared together. He is survived by his wife Marie, his three children, John (Regina), Joe (Laura) and Anne Marie (Brian Kincade), and his seven grandchildren – Chrissy (Jimmy), Julia (Brady), Gianni, Nino, Elissa, Jacqueline, and Leah.
Relatives and friends are invited to his visitation on Wednesday, June 14, 2023 from 10:00 am - 10:45 am at St. Agnes Church 233 W. Gay St. West Chester, PA 19380 followed by his Funeral Mass at 11:00 am.
