Mary Ellen McCool

Mary Ellen McCool, 79 of West Chester, PA passed away Wednesday September 4, 2024 surrounded by her loving family and friends. 

She was the wife of the late Raymond R. McCool.

Born July 13, 1945 in Wilmington, DE. She was the daughter of James R. Hackman Sr. and the late Mary R. Griffith. 

Mary Ellen grew up in Brinton Lake, graduated from Henderson High School and West Chester University. 

She was an English teacher at Scott High School in Coatesville, PA. Later working at Chester County Police Radio and Chester County Emergency Services. She was a partner at McCool Properties in West Chester, PA.  

Mary Ellen was quite the character. She lit up any room she walked into with her quick wit, laughter and jokes. She enjoyed gardening, scrabble, and reading. She loved spending her summers on the Chesapeake. 

She is survived by her loving son Ryan McCool, husband of Brianna Conlen. Stepchildren, Christian McCool husband of Christine, Marjorie Constable wife of Craig, Andrew McCool, brothers James Hackman Jr. and his children, Sheri Emmi & Denise (Jim) Garvey, and John Hackman (Karen), and their children John Hackman & Jaren Ezzell (Ryan). She is also survived by her grandchildren Matthew, Jordan (Conner), Shanna, Michaela, Max, Rayce, Amelia, Logan, Alexis, Natalie, and Connor. Special loved ones include; Codie & Derek James and Marilyn & Bob Flowers. Her favorite canine companion, Holly. 

She was preceded in death by stepdaughter, Barbara McCool. 

Relatives and friends are invited to her visitation on Wednesday September 11, 2024 from 10:30-11:45am followed by her funeral service at 12 noon at the DellaVecchia, Reilly, Smith & Boyd Funeral Home, Inc, 410 N.
