Mary Anne Sontag

Mary Anne Sontag, 75 years old, of Downingtown, PA passed away Monday, September 13, 2021 at Paoli Hospital surrounded by loved ones.

Born October 8, 1945 in Philadelphia, PA she was the daughter of the late Joseph Mooney and the late Gertrude (McCarthy) Mooney and was the sixth of their seven children.

Mary Anne grew up in Bala Cynwood, PA and graduated from Holy Child in Rosemont. She summered with her family in Sea Isle City, NJ where she met her true love John G. Sontag.  Mary Anne spent a year at Dunbarton College of the Holy Cross, in DC and left school at 19 to marry John. She spent the next decade raising their three boys in Hatboro, PA and Belle Mead, NJ.  After raising her family, Mary Anne went back to college to earn her computer science degree from Trenton State College and worked as a software programmer for a transportation consulting company in Princeton, NJ until early retirement.

After retiring, Mary Anne spent time traveling with her husband John and their good friends.  Mary Anne enjoyed spending time at the beach in Sea Isle City with her eight grand children and her siblings and their families. Mary Anne also enjoyed spending the winter months with her husband and family on the west coast of Florida.

Mary Anne is survived by three loving children: John (Maria), Michael (Elizabeth), and Chris (Susanne).  She is also survived by her siblings: Celeste Peters, Edward Mooney (Barbara), Flavia Herzog (Joseph), and Arlene McFadden (Edwin), and by her eight grandchildren: Catherine, Christina, Kimberly, Samantha, Steven, Alyssa, Andrew, and Benjamin. 

Mary Anne was preceded in death by her husband John, her brother Joseph Mooney (Mary-Jo), her sister Loretta Polychronakis, and her parents Gertrude and Joseph Mooney.

Relatives and Friends are invited to her Visitation from 9:00 am to 9:45 am Friday September 17, 2021 at St. Elizabeth Church, 110 Saint Elizabeth Dr., Chester Springs, PA 19425 followed by her Funeral Service at 10:00 am.  

Interment will be held in SS. Peter & Paul Cemetery Springfield, PA.
