Mary Louise “Mary Lou” Stickley, of West Chester, PA passed away peacefully on January 26, 2024. She was born Mary Munz on April 3, 1939 to Fred and Mary K Munz in Philadelphia, PA. Mary Lou grew up in the Fox Chase section of Northeast Philadelphia, where much of her extended family resided within several blocks of each other.
Mary Lou was a graduate of Frankford High School and Chestnut Hill Nursing College. Nursing was her calling, and she had a long career caring for patients in several hospitals, schools, and nursing homes. She worked for many years at Fair Acres Geriatric Center in Media, PA and always put the needs of others before herself. She will be dearly missed by her husband, John “Jack” Stickley, with whom she enjoyed over 63 years of marriage.
While in nursing school, Mary Lou created several lasting friendships and continued to see her classmates socially until shortly before her passing. She met Jack on the campus of Penn State Abington (then known as Penn State Ogontz) where he was a student. Jack and Mary Lou received a commendation from Pope Francis on the occasion of their 60th wedding anniversary in 2020.
Mary Lou and Jack enjoyed traveling, especially touring Europe, visiting their son and his family in California, and taking cruises. She enjoyed visiting Avalon and Long Beach Island on the Jersey Shore. Jack and Mary Lou also had a home in Beach Haven, Long Beach Island for many years. She was a fan of reading mystery novels and enjoyed live music and concerts, particularly the Philadelphia Orchestra and her grandchildren’s school musicals.
Mary Lou was predeceased by her parents, her sister Joan Manno, and her granddaughter Laura Mary Masse. Mary Lou is survived by her loving husband, Jack Stickley, her son John (Susan) Stickley, her daughter Sandra Masse (David), her son Glenn (Gina) Stickley, granddaughters Kristyn Stickley (Justin Horst), Carolyn Stickley, grandsons Daniel Masse, and Carter Stickley, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to her visitation on Friday, February 2, 2024 from 10:30 am - 11:15 am at SS. Peter & Paul Church 1325 E. Boot Rd. West Chester, PA 19380; followed by her Funeral Mass at 11:30 am.
