Mary Piatt Obituary

Mary Edith (Keiper) Piatt, 89, of West Chester, PA died peacefully on January 4, 2022 in West Chester, at The Hickman Friends Senior Community of West Chester.

She was the wife of the late Richard O. Piatt, with whom she shared 65 years of marriage at the time of his passing in 2016.

Born May 24, 1932 in Bethlehem, PA, she was the daughter of the late Wilbur M. Keiper and the late Sarah Jane (Ramsay) Keiper.

Mary was a graduate of Liberty High School Class of 1950. She worked as a proofreader and salesclerk at Hess’s Department store when her children were grown.

Mary had a great love for knitting, sewing, needlework, crafts, games, puzzles and reading. She traveled 49 states with her husband and assisted with his love of genealogical research. They attended many Piatt Conferences across the country and held many friendships with these fellow researchers.  She enjoyed spending winters in Florida for over 28 years and held many friendships with her winter community. After her husband’s passing, she made new friends at the West Chester Senior Center and enjoyed exercise programs, knitting club and pinochle. She moved to The Hickman in September 2019 and quickly adapted to the caring community of staff and residents, participating in most activities and sharing her infectious smile and witty sense of humor. The family would like to thank The Hickman and Compassus Hospice staff for their love and care for her.

She is survived by children, Cynthia S. Piatt, Cylvia A. Ultz (Larry), Diana L. Piatt, Lori L. Uhl (Scott), and Beth A. Black (Phillip); grandchildren, Bradley S. Uhl (Amanda), Ellyn M. (Ultz) Payton (Randall), Aubree E. (Uhl) Smith (Daniel), Jason C. Black (Kathryn), and Sean P. Black (Madison); great grandchildren, Atha J. Uhl, Everett S. Uhl, August O. Uhl, Bailey E. Black, Riley O. Smith, Keiper B. Uhl, Holland V. Black, Rhys Payton and Gavin C. Smith.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Sarah Jane (Keiper) Campbell.
