Mary L. Dougherty of West Chester, PA
Mary Leah Dougherty of West Chester died April 3, 2009, after a brief illness. She was born February 18, 1928 in East Marlborough Twp., near Longwood Gardens. She was the daughter of the Late Margaret Welsh Johnson and the late R. Frank Johnson; and grew up in Hamorton. She graduated from Kennett Consolidated School in 1946 and married George J. Dougherty in 1949.
Mary began her career with the DuPont Company and later worked in the Counseling Center at West Chester University fro 21 years and retired from there in 1991.
She volunteered in the Mammogram Office of the Chester County Hospital and The Bring and Buy Shop. She was a member of the Paoli Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, AARP and the Business and Professional Women's Club of West Chester.
Mary is Survived by her husband of 59 years, George J. Dougherty, two sons, Michael J. Dougherty of Centreville, MD and
Thomas G. Dougherty of Middlebury Center, PA, a sister Eleanor Spohn of Lake Wylie, SC, and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother Richard F. Johnson.
Services and Interment are private.
