Obituary

Marshall D. Strode, M.D., 80 of West Chester, PA passed away Thursday December 4, 2025 at his home.

He was the beloved husband of Deborah Strode (Barr) In addition to his wife of 40 years, Marshall is survived by his children, Jennifer Elmore (Alec), Matthew Strode (Carolyn), Daniel Strode, Emily A. Strode (Ismael Ahrazem) and Laura Shackleton (Daniel), and 10 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother and sister.

Born May 8, 1945 in West Chester, PA he was the son of the late Amos D. Strode and the late Anne Powell Strode.

Marshall was born and grew up in West Chester and graduated from B. Reed Henderson High School, Ursinus College and Temple Medical School. He completed an internship at Wilmington Medical Center and residency at the University of Pennsylvania. He was honorably discharged from the Delaware Army National Guard Medical unit in 1977 with rank of Major.

He worked as an anesthesiologist for 37 years at the Chester County Hospital where he was well respected and admired. 

Marshall attended Goshen Baptist Church, was a member of the Radley Run Country Club, and also the Surf City Yacht Club.

Marshall was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and delighted in spending time with his large, active family.  He was the family grill master and king of backflips in the backyard pool.

Next to being with his family, some of his happiest moments were on the beach at his beloved Surf City, NJ with a fishing pole in his hand or on the golf course with his friends. Marshall was an avid Philadelphia sports fan, particularly the Eagles and Phillies. He enjoyed working in his yard and often gifted neighbors and friends with homegrown vegetables from his garden.

Relatives and friends are invited to his visitation on Monday, December 15, 2025 from 10:00 am – 11:00 am at First Presbyterian Church of West Chester 130 W. Miner St. West Chester, PA 19382, followed by his Funeral Service at 11:00 am.

Interment will be in Birmingham Lafayette Cemetery West Chester PA.

In lieu of flowers, Marshall requested that you take your loved one out for a nice dinner.
