Mark Philip Mixner Obituary

Mark Philip Mixner, age 70, passed away on May 4, 2023 at his home in West Chester, Pennsylvania after an eleven-month battle with a glioblastoma brain tumor. He was born on June 16, 1952 in Washington, DC to the late John H. and the late Eileen E. (Scanlan) Mixner, and grew up in Arlington, Va. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Susan (Webber) Mixner and his only son, Robert J. Mixner.

Mark grew up in Arlington, Virginia, where he ran track and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. He earned a BA from the College of William and Mary, and an MS from George Washington University.

Mark’s career in education management encompassed 30 years in universities in Virginia, South Dakota, Indiana and Pennsylvania. After 15 years as Vice President for Administration and Finance at West Chester University, he was honored with an Emeritus Designation. In his professional life Mark was dedicated, honest, and fair; he is described by colleagues as an administrator who put people first.

Mark was an avid bicyclist and an accomplished model-boat builder; he loved cats, reading, and sailing. He was a devoted husband and father, who highly valued his friends and colleagues. He was a witty nonconformist with a high sense of personal integrity. His life made a positive difference.

Mark and his family are grateful to Penn Medicine and all the talented, compassionate professionals who helped Mark when he was in need.
