Our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend Marion Ecker Painter passed on Thursday August 24th, 2023 at the age of 104 at Aventura at Pembrooke West Chester, PA.
She was the wife of the late John Levis Painter.
Born September 6, 1918 in Waynesboro, PA, she was the daughter of the late Charles L. Ecker and the late Effie Pearl Ecker. Marion graduated from Juniata College in 1941 and Penn State University in 1953 with a master’s degree in education. She was a teacher for 15 years in Waynesboro School District, 5 years in Upper Darby School District and 15 years in the Chester School District. She was a member of the PSEA, Cumberland Valley Choral Society and Upper Darby Choral Society.
She served as a foreign exchange teacher in Manchester England from 1948 to 1949, during which time she traveled throughout Europe and assisted refugees in Austria. While in England, she had tea with Princess Elizabeth and the Queen Mother. She also took part in an audience with Pope Pius XII while in Rome.
Marion was a member of the Church of the Brethren Drexel Hill, PA where she was a member of the choir and also taught Sunday School for many years.
She enjoyed crocheting, gardening, tutoring neighborhood children and tutoring English as a second language to foreign exchange students at West Chester University.
Marion is survived by her daughter Barbara E. Morgan (Bryon), grandson Aaron C. Morgan (Caitlin), and great granddaughter Elizabeth R. Morgan.
She was preceded in death by her son David C. Painter, sister Janet Morris and brothers Robert G Ecker, Jacob Aldene Ecker, Paul L Ecker, and William Ecker.

Internment will be in Green Mount Cemetery West Chester PA.
