Marguerite Edith McEvoy (affectionately known as Marge) was born on August 22, 1947 in Portland, ME, and departed this life to be with the Lord Jesus at 12:22 AM on July 31, 2024 at the Phoebe Nursing Home in Richlandtown, PA. She was the daughter of the late Roger Wheaton and the late Ethel Smith Wheaton. Marge, in her early childhood years, grew up on a chicken farm in Maine along with her parents and two sisters, Bonnie and Laurel. Her family then moved to Queens, New York City, where Marge graduated from Richmond Hill High School in 1965.
Marge married Stephen A. McEvoy on August 26, 1967 in New York City. Marge and Steve soon moved out to the NYC suburbs, first to Stony Brook and then to Huntington Station, both on Long Island, where they had their first child Lisa in 1970, followed by their second and last child Brian in 1973.
In 1977, Marge, Steve and family moved to West Chester, Pennsylvania, and Westtown Township, where she and Steve have resided for almost 50 years.
Marge was a faithful Christian for her entire adult life, and joyously worshipped and served her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. During her early years in West Chester, Marge was an involved member of Goshen Baptist Church. More recently, she was an active member of Trinity Assembly of God Church.
Over the years, Marge blessed others by using her vocal talents through various music ministries. She is fondly remembered by her two children as being the youth choir director at Goshen Baptist, and for instilling in them, and in a great many others, a joy for music – and especially for worship and praise music. Marge also demonstrated her love for serving others by learning sign language and working as an interpreter for hearing-impaired children in the local middle school, and later by becoming and working as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
Marge also enjoyed exploring the world with her husband, and she used her exemplary scrapbooking skills to create beautiful memories of their extensive travels, as well as documenting many precious memories with family and friends. Wherever Marge was, she always found ways to express her love by serving others and using her gifts to honor Jesus.
Marge is survived by her loving husband, Steve; her daughter, Lisa Elvin, and son-in-law Richard (aka Joe); her son, Brian McEvoy, and daughter-in-law, Tracy; her grandchildren Charissa Elvin, Noel Elvin, Randall Elvin and Nolan McEvoy; her sisters Bonnie Wheaton and Laurel Favilla, brother-in-law Andrew Favilla; and her nephews Michael Favilla (wife Jackey), Frank Favilla (wife Aabye), and Ian Favilla.
Relatives and friends are invited to her visitation on Monday, August 12, 2024 from 10:00 am - 1:00 pm at Trinity Assembly of God Church, 1022 Pottstown Pike West Chester, PA 19380, followed by her Funeral Service at 1:00 pm
Interment will be held immediately following the service in the nearby Green Mount Cemetery.
Following the burial, all relatives and friends (regardless of whether attending the earlier services) are invited to a gathering at Goshen Baptist Church, 1451 West Chester Pike, West Chester, PA 19382, for a time of remembrance and fellowship, including snacks, refreshments and a lite meal.
Anticipated time at Goshen Baptist is 3:30 PM.
