MARGARET JUSTICE SCHOLL
Margaret “Peg” Scholl was called aloft on Saturday, November 12, 2022. Peggy, 83 years young, died peacefully in her sleep at Barclay Friends, where she was convalescing after a recent hospitalization. She was happily married to Donald B. Scholl for 64 years. Born July 5, 1939, she was the eldest of four daughters of the late George L. Justice and Ann Leisenring. The family lived in Rosemont, PA and Peggy graduated from Agnes Irwin School in 1957. She counted many of those classmates as life-long, dear friends.
Peg had various careers she balanced with raising her family of four children. At different times she was a licensed realtor, printing salesperson, business owner, and throughout that time, ran the office operations for Don’s consulting business.
Peg was a woman of wide-ranging passions. She and Don were blessed to be able to travel to all corners of the world and passed their love of international travel on to their children. Wherever they traveled, they sought out the beauty of the local culture, history, arts, and gardens. She enjoyed unscripted adventure. Once, when in her forties, Peggy and a close friend Betty Bolster hitchhiked with backpacks around the highlands of Scotland, sometimes sleeping in farm fields. She was a gourmet chef, and her very late-night dinners were legendary. Peg was an avid gardener and grew beautiful perennial gardens. Don and Peg had a passion for fine art, and it was always an adventure for them to pursue and acquire new pieces to go with their other collections like house plants, baubles, and piles of mail.
Peggy supported numerous local charities with her time and philanthropy. She was past president of Meals On Wheels of Chester County and committee member of The Fund for Women and Girls. She and Don were contributors to the founding of Uptown Theater. And she donated generously to many other charities in the area. Peg had a deep love of history and was a member of the Historical Committee of East Bradford township.
Peg’s biggest joy was spending time with family and friends, especially enjoying the company of her eight grandchildren. Peg is predeceased by her sister Kathy. She is survived by her husband Don and four children and their spouses: Sandra Donahue (Brian), Christopher Scholl (Susan), Jonathan Scholl (Teresa), and Randy Scholl, all of West Chester, PA. and the grands: Colin and Ian Donahue, Evan and Madeline Scholl, Nigel, Gabriel, and Sophia Scholl, and Heath Scholl. Peg is also survived by two loving twin sisters, Anne Buchanan and Gail Coppola, and a huge contingent of frog collectables.
Peg was a woman of faith and a member of The Church of the Loving Shepherd in West Chester. A visitation will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, 130 W. Miner Street West Chester, PA on Thursday, December 1, 2022 from 1-1:45 pm, followed by her Celebration of Life at 2:00 pm. Directly after the service, a reception will take place at the church.
