With heavy hearts, we announce the unexpected passing of Lynne S. Carter on Monday January 13, 2025.
Lynne was born on November 17, 1944, in Abington, PA, and was the daughter of the late Philip L. Shadle Sr. and Bertha V. Gutteridge Shadle.
She grew up in Abington, where she graduated from Abington High School and went on to attend Ursinus College earning her Bachelor of Arts degree.
In 1976, she married the love of her life, Joseph Richard Carter Jr., with whom she shared a 40-year marriage filled with love, laughter, and mutual support until his passing. Together, they built a beautiful life which brought them much pride and joy.
Lynne had a remarkable professional career. She worked for over 25 years as a director at Bell of PA, where she earned respect for her leadership and dedication. After retiring from Bell, she found a new passion, becoming a licensed real estate agent and spending more than 25 years helping her clients find the perfect home. Through her work, she developed many lifelong friendships.
An active member of the First Presbyterian Church of West Chester, Lynne was also a member of the Meadia Heights Golf Club and a long-time member of the Hershey’s Mill Golf Club, where she served on the Board of Directors, as well as several other committees. She enjoyed the game of golf and was always ready to share her love of the sport with others. Lynne also had a gift for cooking and baking, loved travelling and shopping and was always up for a good game of Mahjong. She relished exploring new places and creating memories with her family and friends.
Lynne’s greatest joy was her family. She is survived by Joseph Richard Carter III and his wife, Sue, Linda C. Beltz and her husband, Jim, and Terry A. Massimini and her husband, Don. She was the proud grandmother of ten grandchildren: Koren, Matt, Cory, Jamie, Jim, Kristen, Erika, Rich, Brandon, and Shawn. Lynne also had 22 great-grandchildren, each of whom held a special place in her heart. Lynne is also survived by her brother, Philip L. Shadle Jr., her nephew, David Shadle and his wife, Jennifer, and three great-nephews.
A loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, Lynne will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her legacy of kindness, joy, and devotion to family will live on in the hearts of her loved ones.
Most recently, Lynne dedicated much of her time to the development of the new Memory Center at Willow Valley Communities, where she lived. Therefore, in lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in her name to WillowValleyCommunities.
