Obituary

Leo Bertrand Schick, age 87, of West Chester, PA, passed away on April 16, 2026, surrounded by family in his daughter’s home. He was born on May 24, 1938, in Detroit, Michigan, to the late Paul Thomas Schick and Anne Marie (Luchinski) Schick. Leo spent most of his childhood and teen years living in Lancaster, PA. The eldest of nine siblings, Leo was a devoted family man and a lifelong learner.

Leo is survived by his beloved children: Joseph (Michael), Elizabeth Gill (Dave), and Molly Wadyko (Tony). He was the proud grandfather of nine (Mike Schick, Leila & Thea Bolce-Schick, Ann Massimi (Nick), Joe Gill (Dominique), Kayla Wadyko, Adam Wadyko, Paul Gill and Nina Wadyko) and great-grandfather of three (Nathaniel and Izabelle Massimi and Miriam Gill). He is also survived by his brothers David, Jerry (Nancy), and Robert, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Leo is predeceased by his beloved wife Flossie of 61 years and son Patrick (Fran) as well as his siblings (Mary Ann Yau, Daniel, Greg, John and Henry).

Leo was a go-to guy in his family for fixing just about anything. As a young man, he displayed a passion for music, playing the piano and clarinet in high school in a jazz band, and he also became a ham radio operator. This hobby helped Leo catch the eye of Flossie, his future wife, whom he invited to see his ham radio setup after meeting at a mixer picnic between Lancaster Catholic High and her all-girls school. They were inseparable from that day on!

Leo went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Villanova University and a master’s degree from Drexel University, which led to a long and successful career in the electronics and technology industry.

Leo cherished the outdoors and enjoyed taking his children on pop-up trailer camping trips to Pennsylvania state parks. A loyal sports fan, he especially loved cheering for Villanova Basketball. He took great pride in the fact that he shares the same name and Alma mater as Pope Leo XIV. A person of deep faith, Leo was active in his church community and served as a cantor at SS. Simon and Jude Parish, Westtown, PA, for five decades, at the early Mass.

Over the years after his retirement, Leo helped to care for his grandchildren and kept in touch with dear colleagues through regular lunch outings. He loved being there for his grandchildren, cheering them on at sporting events, enjoying their concerts, and watching their musicals.

After the passing of the love of his life, Flossie, Leo embraced his motto, “keep trying,” and persevered through numerous obstacles and challenges, all while nursing a broken heart every single day.

Leo most recently enjoyed praying the rosary, having dinners and participating in activities with his friends in his assisted living community, who will sorely miss his kind and inspiring presence.

Leo will be remembered for his devotion to family, his love of music, and his dedication to his faith and community.

Relatives and friends are invited to his visitation on Tuesday, April 28, 2026 from 10:00 am - 10:45 am at SS. Peter & Paul Church 1325 E. Boot Rd. West Chester, PA 19380, followed by his Funeral Mass at 11:00 am
