Josephine R. Luciano

Josephine R. Luciano of West Chester, PA, passed away peacefully with her daughter by her side on Sunday, October 8, 2023, at the age of 97.

Born in Bryn Mawr, PA on June 30, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Louis Ottaviano and the late Josephine Del Bianco, and became one of ten children. Josephine was married to the late Vincent Luciano of Philadelphia, PA, on June 15, 1946, and they had one child. 

She is survived by her daughter, Marie Halvorsen of West Chester, PA; her three grandchildren: Christine Halvorsen, Matthew Halvorsen (Christina), and Michael Halvorsen (Julie); and seven great-grandchildren: Nathaniel, Charlotte, Bradley, Vincent, Joshua, Vance, and Carley.

Josephine devoted her life to her family and her labor of love of cooking and baking brought her as much joy as it did her admiring family. The scent of Italian meatballs and peppers and sausage simmering in the kitchen fill our memories. Her escarole soup will be missed at Thanksgiving and Christmas, and her famous “Grandmom’s Cookies” will be missed at every single celebration. Above all, we will miss the warm smile and loving demeanor of our beloved Mom, Grandmom, and Great-Grandmom. May God grant her soul eternal peace.

A private funeral service and interment will be held on Tuesday, October 17, 2023. Donations in Josephine’s memory can be made to the Brandywine Valley SPCA
