Joseph Rinard Turse passed away on September 15, 2024.
He was the husband of María Irene (Guzmán) Turse with whom he shared 55 years of marriage.
Born in Sunbury, PA on November 14, 1941, he was the son of the late Rex and Mabel Turse of Hazleton, PA.
Joe was a 1959 high school graduate of Hazleton High School and received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Stonehill College in 1964. He also received a degree in Theology from Universidad Católica in Santiago, Chile in 1968 and a Master’s Degree in Counseling from Penn State University in 1970. He completed his Doctorate in Education Administration at Lehigh University in 1984.
Joe was employed by the West Chester School District for 25 years first as a counselor and later on as an administrator retiring in 1997. He also taught at Immaculata University and other higher education institutions.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, playing tennis and traveling throughout Latin America, Europe and the United States along with years of biking in various parts of the world.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Michelle Karr (Jason) of Lafayette, Co, Christian Turse (Karen) of West Chester, and Alison Selders (Bryan) of Milton, DE, and seven grandchildren: Anna Marie and Josephine Karr, Andrew, Matthew and Ryan Turse and Charles and Maxwell Selders. He is also survived by his brother Thomas (Carol) Turse and many nieces and nephews in Santiago, Chile and in Wyoming.
Relatives and friends are invited to his visitation on Saturday, October 19th from 11:30 to 12:15 p.m. at St. Agnes Church, 233 W. Gay St. West Chester, PA 19380 followed by his Funeral Mass at 12:30 p.m.
Interment will be private.
