Joseph A. Shaw

Joseph A. Shaw, age 80, of Sewell, NJ passed into the loving arms of Our Lord on Saturday, May 29, 2021.

Joe and his wife were previously long-time residents of Stratford, NJ. He was the only child of the late Joseph Shaw and Catherine (Glaze) Shaw.

Joe was a graduate of Camden Catholic High School. He was a veteran of the United States Army. As a young father he balanced parenting, a full-time job, and earning a degree as a full-time evening student. He studied computers when they were becoming the big new thing to utilize his problem-solving skills and to provide for his new family. After graduating he worked for RCA, Colonial Penn, and ended his career as a computer systems analyst at Temple University Health Systems.

As a child, Joe played games on the streets of South Philly and took vacations with his cousins who were like brothers to him. He developed a love of westerns, science fiction, various serials, and Philadelphia sports teams.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a parishioner of St. Luke Roman Catholic Church in Stratford, NJ for much of his life. He helped coach his sons’ soccer and little league baseball teams.  Always willing to help with activities including Cub Scouts, he was a diligent and loving presence in the life of his family, friends, and community.

Joe was known as a kind, gentle, welcoming, hard-working family man. He had off-the-cuff, head-shakingly bad, “dad jokes” for anyone who was fortunate enough to cross his path. He naturally made people feel at ease. With his imaginative mind, Joe created, wrote, and orated stories. Later in life, he attended story-writing classes to hone his skills. He continued to craft additional tales to be passed on to his grandchildren.

Joe is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Patricia (Pooler) Shaw and his two sons: Joseph (Maya) Shaw and Robert (Priya) Shaw. He was a wonderful Pop-Pop to five grandchildren: Zachary, Samuel, Timothy, Kiran, and Jaya.

No funeral service will be held at this time. A memorial service will be held at a to be determined date.
