Joseph Eugene Brady was born in Luzerne, PA on August 19, 1926 to Joseph A. and Marie A. Brady (nee Obert). For many years he lived on Charles Street in Luzerne. After studying for one year at the University of Scranton, he was inducted into the U.S. Army in February, 1945 and was honorably discharged in October, 1946. While in the service, he studied the Japanese language at the University of Pennsylvania and served in occupied Japan as a translator and interpreter. He resumed his studies at the University of Scranton and completed his degree in 1949. In 1951, he met the love of his life, Marion Frances Checkon. Joseph began his 41 year career at Wyeth Laboratories in 1954. They began their 65 year marriage on July 4, 1955. Joseph and Marion moved to the West Chester, PA area, and lived there until 1998.
Joseph was preceded in death by his wife, Marion and their two infant sons, Mark Joseph and Christopher Joseph and brother James Brady. He is survived by his children, David Paul of Twin Mountain, NH, Thomas Joseph (spouse Amy Marie) of Newtown Square, PA and Sean Richard (spouse Marty Wooldridge) of Herndon, VA. Joseph is also survived by six grandchildren and sibling Mary Lukish of Luzerne, PA.
Until his death on June 11, 2022, Joseph remained wise beyond his years. He was a kind and calm soul with a quiet, dry sense of humor, who had a marvelous human experience. Joseph was a voracious reader of history, an avid gardener and Marion’s right hand man in the kitchen. He will be remembered as a loving husband, gentle father and he will be sorely missed.
Relatives and friends are invited to his visitation, Monday, June 27, 2022 from 10:00 am to 10:45 am at St. Maximillian Kolbe Church 15 East Pleasant Grove Road, West Chester, PA 19382; Followed by his Funeral Mass at 11:00 am, which will be live streamed at the following link: https://stmax.org/live-mass
Interment will be private.
