Obituary

Joseph W. Batson, Jr., 74, of West Chester, PA, passed away on Thursday, August 14, 2025 at Doylestown Hospital after a long-fought and courageous health battle  Although Joe was very ill, he exemplified grace, dignity, and a quiet resignation and acceptance of his circumstances, while keeping his wry sense of humor.

Joe was the beloved husband of Rosemarie C. Batson for 44 years. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his loving daughter, Jennifer, and devoted son, Michael. He was a loyal brother and brother-in-law to his sister, Joan M. Blaustein and the late Stanley I. Blaustein. Joe was also a loving uncle to his nephew, Joseph Blaustein, and niece, Amy Hostetter and her husband, Steven, and great uncle to Bailey and Sloane Hostetter. Joe is also survived by his cousin, Fran Batson. He will be lovingly remembered as a faithful friend to many, a good neighbor, and an honorary uncle to others.

Joe was born on March 7, 1951 in Darby, PA and was the son of the late Joseph W. Batson, Sr. and the late Margaret Maxwell Batson.

He grew up in Upper Darby and Broomall, PA and graduated from Cardinal O’Hara High School. Joe went on to earn his bachelor’s degree from Peirce Junior College and La Salle University.

Joe built a successful career as a Certified Public Accountant, owning and operating Joseph W. Batson, Jr. & Associates PC in Havertown, PA, for many years. He often remarked how much he enjoyed working with his clients. Prior to starting his own business, Joe worked as the CFO of Potamkin car dealerships in Springfield and in Philadelphia and also held varied positions within the accounting profession. He was a member of the professional accounting organizations of AICPA, PSTAP, and PICPA.

As a member of St. Agnes Church in West Chester, PA, Joe often helped out as usher at Sunday mass for many years. He was a former Marple Newtown Jaycee and was involved in many community service projects in this role.

Outside of his professional life, Joe enjoyed decorating the outside of his home with Christmas lights at the holidays, tinkering in the garage, coin collecting, target shooting, and exploring his passion for WWII history.
