John Edward “Eddie” Barnes, 72 of Malvern, PA passed away Wednesday August 20, 2025 at Chester County Hospital in West Chester.
Born March 12,1953 in Philadelphia, PA he was the son of Elizabeth A. (Groody) Barnes and the late John Leslie Barnes.
Eddie grew up in West Chester and graduated from Bishop Shanahan, class of 1971. He attended Penn State University where he earned his degree in Biochemistry.
Eddie proudly began his career at the Wistar Institute in Philadelphia, where his passion for knowledge and helping others flourished. In the mid-1980s, he joined Centocor Biopharmaceutical in Malvern as a Biophysicist, later relocating to Leiden, the Netherlands, to help establish a new manufacturing division. There, he played a key role in transferring products from research and development into full-scale production. In the early 1990s, Eddie embarked on the next chapter of his career in Information Systems, working for SunGard and FIS. He managed development teams and eventually became a subject matter expert in multiple areas of technology, consistently demonstrating adaptability and resilience throughout his professional journey.
Eddie enjoyed the outdoors, dinner with friends and house parties with family. He loved discovering new places and would frequently step in as local tour guide for visiting friends or family, with insightful and entertaining commentary.
As the oldest among his siblings and close-knit cousins, he was a quiet leader with encyclopedic intelligence and amazing resilience who was cantankerously independent, fiercely loyal, stubbornly private, relentlessly resourceful, persistently helpful, endearingly funny, and unquestionably kind.
In addition to his mother, Eddie is survived by his beloved partner of 32 years and fiancé Mary Spyridakis; siblings Mary Barnes, Michael Barnes, Kevin Barnes (Migdalia), Paul Barnes (Patty), Ann Marie Stone (Mark) and Jim Barnes; and his treasured nieces & nephews and cousins.
