John Tipton Obituary

John M. Tipton, 76, of West Chester, PA passed away unexpectedly, but peacefully, on Tuesday, January 30, 2024 at the Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia surrounded by his loving family.

Born on May 21, 1947 in Chester, PA, he was the son of the late John Hannum Tipton and Margaret F. Meehan Tipton Bruno.

John grew up in both Lenni and Marshalton, PA, attending St. Francis DeSales school and later graduated from Bishop Shanahan High School. He then served in the United States Army as a sergeant, spending the majority of his time stationed in South Korea during the Vietnam War. He was absolutely honored to be accepted into West Point, but hesitantly turned down the opportunity in order to carry on his deceased father’s sign business, Tipton Signs, while also attending Hussian Art School of Philadelphia.

John was the proud co-owner of Tipton Signs of West Chester, PA for 50 years who he shared with his late wife, Debi, and their work is still spread across the entire surrounding area. After semi-retiring, he has been working for Anchor Health Properties over the last twenty years, overseeing all of the medical centers in the area, most frequently Fern Hill Medical Campus.

He was an incredibly talented artist that loved to draw and paint realism art his entire life. He enjoyed making people around him laugh with his witty jokes and outrageous pranks. He truly found joy in helping anyone he came across with absolutely anything he could do for them. Most importantly, he will be remembered as the 100% best dad in the entire world who unconditionally loved his five girls with all his heart.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his daughter, Melinda Walcott, daughter, Deborah Lee Tipton, daughter, Elizabeth Tipton (Lars), daughter, Theresa (Joe) Clifford, and daughter Mary (Ally) Mason; grandchildren, Lawrence, Arianna, and Joseph Walcott; and sister, Marsha Jamerson.

He was preceded in death by his father John Hannum Tipton, his brother, Jeffrey Tipton, his step-father, Samuel Bruno, and his wife, Debi Tipton.

Relatives and friends are invited to his visitation on Wednesday, February 7, 2024 from 9:30 am - 10:45 am at St. Agnes Church 233 W. Gay St. West Chester, PA 19380; followed by his Funeral Service at 11:00 am.
