John Ottinger, Sr. Obituary

John T. Ottinger, Sr., 96, of Newtown Square, PA passed away Sunday September 13, 2020 at White Horse Village. John was born on March 21, 1924 in Roxborough, PA to William and Lillian (Beavan) Ottinger. He graduated from Roxborough High School in 1924. He married Nancy K. McKim in 1948 and they were married for 68 years until Nancy’s death in 2016.

During World War II, John served in the Army, earning the rank of Major. He later returned to service during the Korean War, completing his service as a Captain. As a civilian, John worked for Bell Telephone from 1946-1985, eventually becoming district manager.

John was involved in many organizations. He was a trustee at First Presbyterian Church of West Chester, past president for the Wilmington Lions Club and served on the utilities advisory commission for Ocean City, NJ.

John enjoyed spending time with his family. He particularly enjoyed time with them on the front porch at his vacation home in Ocean City, NJ. John loved working with his hands and built many beautiful pieces of furniture to give to his family. John also had a love for the railroad and collected model trains. 

He is survived by his grandchildren, John T. Ottinger III , Richard Love Jr. Stephen Ottinger, Michael Love, David Ottinger Jr., Dana (Ottinger) Sudhop, Christopher Ottinger, Mathew Ottinger, Jacob Ottinger John DiGiuseppe, and Cathryn DiGiuseppe, as well as his daughter in-laws, Julie Ottinger and Tonya Ottinger, and numerous great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his daughter Sandra Lee Love and his two sons John T. Ottinger Jr. and David Bruce Ottinger Sr.

Services and Interment will be private.
