Obituary

John Richard McCormack, 91 of West Chester, died peacefully on Monday December 9, 2024 at his home surrounded by his family.  He was the loving husband of 64 years to Dolores Marie D'Agostino McCormack.

Born September 29, 1933 in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late Bernard McCormack and the late Mary Merriman McCormack.  John grew up in Philadelphia and graduated from Roman Catholic High School.  He was an avid baseball and football player and was a member of a semi-professional football team after completing high school.  John was a Sergeant in the Marine Corp from 1953 to 1956, serving in the fleet Marine Force 2nd Anglico.  He worked as a shipping clerk for Colonial Electric for 27 years and always brought a smile to his customers’ faces due to his fun-loving and jovial personality.  As a devout Catholic, John was a parishioner of SS. Simon & Jude Church for the 18 years that he lived in West Chester.

John always saw the good in everyone.  What he enjoyed most in life was being surrounded by his family and friends, telling stories to entertain everyone, and laughing.  He was extremely proud of his children and grandchildren and made sure they knew that.   Due to John’s love of people, he always volunteered to help out by coaching whatever activities his boys joined.  For many years, he coached soccer, baseball, and officiated at the Dad Vail Regatta on the Schuylkill River.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons, John Richard McCormack, Jr. (Jacqui), Timothy Michael McCormack(Diane), and his grandchildren, Joshua, Caroline, and Matthew.

Relatives and friends are invited to his visitation on Wednesday, December 18, 2024 from 10:00 am - 10:45 am at the SS. Simon & Jude Church, 8 Cavanaugh Court West Chester, PA 19382. His Funeral Mass will follow, beginning at 11am.

Interment will be private at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, Newtown, PA with military honors.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Main Line Health HomeCare & Hospice in honor of John.
