Obituary

Joann R. Gere, 88, of Glen Mills, PA, passed away on April 11, 2026.

Born in New Ulm, Minnesota, she was the daughter of the late John Frederick Sauerberg and Anna Templer of Sioux City Iowa. She graduated high school in Jewell Iowa and married her high school sweetheart Dennis Gere in 1956. Dennis and Joann would have been married for 70 years this September. Joann was known for her strong work ethic and dedication to her family and career. In the early years of their marriage, Joann worked and supported Dennis as he went on to obtain a Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree and PHD in Analytical Chemistry.   

Joann was an executive secretary and spent years working at Universities such as Iowa State, Kansas State, the University of California at Berkeley, the University of California at Santa Cruz and Rutgers. In later years she worked in the banking industry in Michigan and Pennsylvania.   

Above all, Joann’s life centered around her family. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, and a proud grandmother. She found great joy in caring for those she loved and will be remembered for her nurturing presence in her family’s life. She was an amazing cook and baker and hostess. She took pride in creating a loving and beautiful home for her husband and children.      

Joann was the beloved wife of the late Dennis Gere and sister of the late James Sauerberg.

She is survived by her children, Kristie Harrington (Chris) and Steven Gere; and her grandchildren, Luke, Dylan, and Gabi.

Joann’s service will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Joann’s memory to the The Brandywine Valley SPCA.
