Joan Blackmore Obituary

Joan F (Schultz) Blackmore, 85, of West Chester, PA.

On October 12, 2021 our loving mother, grandmother and Gigi passed away.  Joan was born in Philadelphia to Mary Carey and Paul Schultz on October 10, 1936. She was preceded in death by siblings Paul Schultz, William Schultz and Anne Schultz Malley.

Joan lived her entire life in suburban Philadelphia. She attended Saint Laurence Catholic School and graduated from Notre Dame High School in 1954. Joan was married to Joseph Stacy in June, 1957 and enjoyed family life with their four daughters, Maureen (Joseph) Cassel, Sharon (James) Yates, Linda (Dennis R) Paulson, Barbara (Kevin) Rodenberger until his passing in 1964.

In 1970 Joan married Robert King, they shared 25 years of married life until his passing in 1996. The life they built together in Berwyn included large gatherings of their neighborhood friends, family celebrations and trips to the beach in Strathmere, NJ.

Education was always an important part of Joan’s life. After seeing her four daughters through college, she completed her college education, graduating from Immaculata College in 1989 with a degree in Accounting.  She went on to have a successful career for 15 years in the banking industry.

Joan found great joy in her family, and had a special bond with her seven grandchildren: Sarah, Melissa, Katelyn, Joseph, Samantha, Graham and Daniel and her two great grandchildren, Hannah and Elias.

Joan had many interests. She was a lifelong avid reader and a member of the Aronomink Ladies Book Club. She kept active with daily walks and enjoyed water aerobics at the Hershey’s Mill pool. She was also a member of the Hershey’s Mill Singers.  Her time spent with women in the Praise Circle at First Presbyterian Church was a source of great joy.

Joan married Samuel Blackmore in 2004.  Together they formed a bond with members of the community at First Presbyterian. They enjoyed travelling throughout the United States and internationally. They also shared a love of music, books, good wine and fine dining. Sam’s children Beth Dailey, Bill Blackmore and Sue Blackmore became an important part of Joan’s life.
