Janet Susan Bernhard

Janet Susan Bernhard, 80 of West Chester died Friday, January 6, 2023 at the Chester County Hospital in West Chester.

What started as a dating relationship in 1977 became a 33 year marriage.  She married Ed Bernhard in 1989 while vacationing in Bermuda.

Born August 29, 1942 in Washington, DC she was the daughter of the late Harold Francis Blum and the late Mable Muriel Gilham Blum.

Janet grew up in Princeton, NJ and graduated from Princeton High School.  She attended Parsons College in Fairfield, Iowa and West Chester University.

She worked as an Insurance Underwriter for 25 years.  In later years she specialized in writing high risk commercial coverage for the chemical and paper industries.  In retirement she worked part time caring for seniors in need of help in their homes.

Janet was a veracious reader.  She so much enjoyed gardening and her potted plants.  She was also a dog lover who was often seen walking her chihuahua Hercules.  She will be remembered for her wonderful cooking along with her artistic abilities.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Amanda Susan Morton of Philadelphia and Fritz Lewis of Portland, Maine.

Relatives and friends are invited to her visitation on Saturday, January 14, 2023 from 10:00 am – 11:30 am at the DellaVecchia, Reilly, Smith & Boyd Funeral Home, Inc. 410 North Church St. West Chester, Pa.19380, 610-696-1181 www.DellaFH.com followed by her Graveside Service, 12:30 pm at the Oaklands Cemetery.
