Janet Rose (Spinelli) Scalcione

Janet Rose Scalcione née Spinelli, age 73, of West Chester, PA, passed away unexpectedly at home, Saturday, July 19, 2025. Born on August 19, 1951 in Bronx, NY, she was the daughter of Joseph and Rose (DePrisco) Spinelli, both of whom preceded her in death.

Growing up the oldest of three children in Plainview, NY, Janet spent her time nurturing her signature kindness, wit, and quiet resolve. She began her career at Snap-on Tools, where she met her late husband of 40 years, Ralph. Together, they moved to Pennsylvania to raise their two children, and she eventually found purpose and community during her years working for QVC.

In the early 2000s, Janet was diagnosed with polycystic kidney disease (PKD) and underwent a successful kidney transplantation. It was due to her incredible strength, her love for her cherished family, and her wonderful sense of humor that she successfully overcame the disease. Her courage remains an inspiration to her friends and family.

Janet’s greatest joy came from time with her family. She was known for her compassionate heart and playful presence. A gentle soul with a deep love for cooking, shopping, travel, the Yankees/Phillies and time spent with her grandchildren.

She was a devoted mother to Matthew (Deepa) and Amanda, and a loving grandmother to Olivia and Sophia Scalcione. Her life was also richly filled by the deep love she had for her sister, Kim Pellicane (Robert Sinder), her cherished nieces and nephews and other extended family. In addition to her parents and husband, Janet is preceded in death by her brother, Joseph. 

A memorial mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, at the St. Agnes Church 233 West Gay Street, West Chester, PA. Visitation will precede the mass at 10:00 a.m. A celebration of life luncheon to honor her will follow the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Janet’s memory to the PKD Foundation which supports research and care for those affected by polycystic kidney disease.
