Janet A. Smith

Janet A. Smith, 85, of West Chester, PA died Friday August 25, 2023 at the Chester County Hospital in hospice care. 

She was the wife of the late William E. Smith, Jr.

Born August 13, 1938 in West Chester, PA, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Finegan and the late Blanche Carter Finegan Chappell.

Janet, a life-long resident of West Chester, was a 1956 graduate from West Chester High School and later attended Goldey-Beacom College.  She started her long professional career in 1969 as an administrative assistant and receptionist for the law office of Lawrence E. Wood.  Throughout the years she worked for several West Chester lawyers.  She retired in 2021 as a secretary for the law office of Peter Barnes.  Janet was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be dearly missed by all.

She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Rosemary W. Smith, grandsons, Joshua Smith, Justin Smith (Julie) of Downingtown, and Jason McGhin (Jennifer) of Plymouth Meeting; great-grandchildren: Aidan and Gwendolyn McGhin and Luke, Charlotte and Ryland Smith; and two nieces.

She was preceded in death by sons, William E. Smith, III, and Lawrence K. Smith. 

Relatives and friends are invited to her visitation on Saturday September 2, 2023, from 3-3:45 pm,  followed by her Funeral Service at 4pm at the DellaVecchia, Reilly, Smith & Funeral Home, Inc. 410 North Church St. West Chester, PA 610-696-1181 www.DellaFH.com 

Interment will be in private at the Grove Methodist Cemetery, West Chester, PA.
