Jane H. Wylie, 90, of West Chester, PA passed away peacefully Sunday, July 20, 2025, at Sunrise Assisted Living of Westtown in West Chester.
She was the wife of the late William W. Wylie, who passed away in 2005.
Born October 16, 1934, in Concordville, PA, she was the daughter of the late William Heyburn and Elizabeth Brinton Heyburn.
Jane grew up on the family farm along Route 202 and graduated from West Chester High School. She attended the University of Pennsylvania and graduated from West Chester State Teacher’s College, then after one year of teaching at Downingtown High School, went to graduate school for Industrial Psychology at the University of New Hampshire. She worked at DuPont in Wilmington until she married, then later worked as a financial analyst at Roy F. Weston, Inc. for 9 years, and had part-time jobs including with First National Bank and making carts for paralyzed dogs. She played trumpet in marching band in high school and college, and also played piano and organ.
Jane loved her life as a homemaker and tending the family farm on Birmingham Road for 52 years before moving to West Goshen Township in 2013. She loved caring for her horses and dogs, and was happiest when she was worn-out after a day of mowing, trimming hedges, giving riding lessons, and tending her flowers. She loved both riding her horses and driving her Welsh pony Liseter Moondust, both on pleasure drives and winning a ribbon once in the Devon Carriage Marathon.
Jane was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, formerly serving as a deacon and elder. Jane volunteered at Chester County Hospital for many years, and was formerly Treasurer of the Ladies’ Auxiliary. She was also a longtime member of the Brandywine Driving Club, and was a Girl Scout leader for many years.
Jane had a wicked sense of humor, and loved to make people smile and laugh. She loved horses, the outdoors, the waterside, road trips for seafood or Amish food, and a good Bloody Mary or frozen strawberry daiquiri. Jane truly loved her family, her farm, and the many animals she raised over her lifetime.
Jane is survived by her children William W. Wylie, Jr, Sarah Coburn (Christopher), and Laurie Wylie, in addition to grandchildren Stuart Wylie (Tina), Peyton Wylie (Sara), Matt Coburn (Katie), and Christina Maloney (John). Her beloved great-grandchildren are Hazel, Lucy, Piper, and Owen Wylie; Llaine and Grace Coburn; and Jade and Jazzlyn Maloney.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Bill, son John, and the many many horses and dogs that she loved over her lifetime.
Relatives and friends are invited to her visitation on Friday, August 1, 2025 from 10:00 am - 10:45 am at Westminster Presbyterian Church 10 W. Pleasant Grove Road West Chester, PA 19382, followed by her Celebration of Life service at 11:00 am, to which guests are invited to wear bright colors and florals to celebrate Jane’s joyous life and love of nature. All guests are invited to stay for a light lunch at the church after the service.
Interment will be private at Birmingham Lafayette Cemetery in West Chester PA.
