James “Jim” W. Worthington, 71 of West Chester, PA passed away Wednesday July 29, 2026 at the West Chester Rehabilitation & Health Care Center in West Chester.
Born February 15, 1955, in West Chester, PA, he was the son of the late Harvey C. Worthington and the late Elizabeth Getty Worthington.
James grew up in West Chester. He was a 1973 graduate of Henderson High School. He graduated from Widener University with an Associate’s degree in Science and later West Chester State College (University) in 1983 Magna Cum Laude with a BA in Philosophy.
He worked with the American Cancer society for some time. After that he spent several years doing carpentry. He really loved working with wood, but an accident put an end to that career.
He later worked as a custodian for Westminster Presbyterian from July of 1997 to July of 2017.
James was a lifelong member of Westminster Presbyterian church.
He enjoyed music, particularly classical and bluegrass. Jim played acoustic guitar and mandolin. He played with several bluegrass groups and participated in the Old Fiddlers Picnic for many years. He also enjoyed reading and working on puzzles.
He is survived by his brother, Thomas Worthington, sister in law Robin Worthington, niece Jennifer Lower (Jason) and nephews Jeremy Worthington and Timothy Worthington, one great niece, 3 great nephews and many cousins.
Relatives and friends are invited to his Service of Remembrance at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 10 W Pleasant Grove Rd, West Chester, PA 19382 on August 12th 2026 at 10:00 AM. A private burial will follow.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church.
